Project Cooperation Agreement:
"Agreement between the Ministry of Science and Technology of China and the Directorate-General for Research and Innovation of the European Commission on the Funding Mechanism for Scientific and Technological Innovation Projects in the Flagship Programs of Food, Agriculture and Biotechnology and the Flagship Programs of Climate Change and Biodiversity from 2021 to 2024"
Fields and Directions:
1.Food, Agriculture and Biotechnology and Related Areas: Focus on research and innovation in areas such as food safety and quality improvement, sustainable agricultural production technologies, agricultural biotechnology applications (including genetic engineering, biofertilizers, and biopesticides), and the development of value-added agricultural products. Explore ways to enhance agricultural productivity, ensure food security, and promote the sustainable development of the agricultural and food sectors.
2.Climate Change and Biodiversity and Related Areas: Study the impacts of climate change on ecosystems, biodiversity conservation strategies in the context of climate change, and the development of climate-resilient and low-carbon technologies. This includes research on carbon sequestration and emission reduction in natural and agricultural ecosystems, the adaptation of species and ecosystems to climate change, and the development of sustainable land and water management practices.
Number of Projects to be Supported: Approximately 10 projects.
Total Funding to be Supported: Approximately 30 million yuan.
Other Requirements:
1.The China-EU Joint Funding Mechanism for Scientific and Technological Innovation Cooperation projects aim to support complementary and mutually beneficial scientific and technological innovation cooperation between China and the EU in jointly identified priority areas. The input and division of labor of all parties in the project should be basically balanced.
2.Project applicants must jointly apply with their European partners for the projects under the Horizon Europe Program released in 2022, 2023, and 2024. Projects in other years are not within the scope of this call.
3.A single Horizon Europe project only supports a corresponding single Chinese project application. For multiple Chinese units participating in the same Horizon Europe project, they should negotiate and determine one unit to lead and submit a Chinese application. The Chinese applicant unit must be a formal partner in the Horizon Europe project it participates in, that is, listed in the "Associated Partner" list of the Horizon Europe project.
4.This call focuses on projects with a low technology readiness level (not exceeding Technology Readiness Level 4 - technology verified in the laboratory).
5.The Chinese applicant unit must submit the English version of its application for the Horizon Europe Program project to the Ministry of Science and Technology, as well as the Chinese translations of the project budget and the research content of the Chinese unit's participation, and ensure that the overall budget of the Horizon Europe project includes the budget of the Chinese unit. In the project application submitted by the Chinese applicant unit to the Ministry of Science and Technology, the budget should not exceed the budget of the Chinese unit in the Horizon Europe project, and the research content should include the research content of the Chinese participation in the English application.
The project implementation period is no more than 4 years.
