Malaysian patent: Method and apparatus for energy-efficient operation in the sterilization of oil palm fruit

Technical description of this Malaysian patent

Rapid and effective removal of residual air from porous load of material exposed to a steam sterilising environment is essential for an energy efficient sterilisation process. Disclosed is a method using pressurized steam to heat-treat a porous load of material placed in an open container and transported into a horizontally positioned cylindrical pressure vessel that includes inducing a flow of fluid through the porous load of material across an interior of the container between the interior and an exterior of the vessel by developing a pressure differential across the interior of the container ; inducing a fluid flow between the first fluid pathway and the exterior of the vessel in order to vary the pressure differential and thereby substantially dispel residual air from within the porous load of material and then restricting the release of air from the vessel. A sterilizer for heat treatment of a porous load of material wherein the sterilizer includes an engageable connection between a first aperture and a second aperture, wherein a fluid connection is formed via the engageable connection providing a fluid pathway between the interior of the container and the exterior of the pressure vessel is disclosed.
