Project Cooperation Agreement:
According to the agreement between the National Natural Science Foundation of China (hereinafter referred to as the Natural Science Foundation, NSFC) and the Research Grants Council of Hong Kong (hereinafter referred to as the Research Grants Council, RGC) on the establishment of a joint scientific research funding fund, the two parties jointly fund the collaborative research carried out by scientific and technological personnel from the Chinese mainland and Hong Kong every year.
Fields and Directions:
1. Information science: It involves research on advanced computing technologies, such as artificial intelligence algorithms and high-performance computing systems. It also includes studies on communication technologies like 5G and future network architectures, as well as research on data storage, processing, and security to meet the challenges of the digital age.
2. Biological science: This area focuses on various aspects such as genomics research to understand the genetic makeup and functions, proteomics to study the structure and function of proteins, and cell biology to explore the mechanisms and behaviors of cells. It also covers research on biotechnology applications, including genetic engineering and biopharmaceutical development.
3. New materials science: It emphasizes the exploration and development of novel materials with unique properties. For example, the research on advanced semiconductor materials for enhanced electronic device performance, high-strength and lightweight composite materials for aerospace and automotive applications, and functional materials with special magnetic, optical, or electrical properties.
4. Marine and environmental science: In marine science, it includes studies on marine ecosystems, marine biodiversity, and oceanography to understand the complex marine environment. Environmental science research involves topics such as air and water pollution control, waste management and recycling, and the study of climate change impacts and mitigation strategies to address global environmental issues.
5. Medical science: It encompasses a wide range of research, from basic medical research on disease mechanisms, such as the study of the pathophysiology of cancer and neurodegenerative diseases, to clinical research on new diagnostic methods and treatment modalities. It also includes research on medical imaging technologies and the development of personalized medicine.
6. Management science: This field focuses on research related to organizational management, strategic management, and operations management. It includes studies on how to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of business operations, optimize resource allocation, and develop innovative management models and strategies in different industries and sectors.
Number of Projects to be Supported: No more than 10.
Fund Support: Not exceeding 3 million yuan per project.
Funding period: Lasts for four years.
