A SYSTEM TO MEASURE INTUITIVE, EMOTIONAL AND COGNITIVE SKILLS FOR HUMAN RESOURCE SKILLS ASSESSMENT
ABSTRACT
The system and method of the present invention provide a novel technique to scientifically measure cognitive, emotional intelligence, and intuitive skills. Coherence and Frontal Asymmetry are standard metrics in social cognitive neuroscience. Coherence is a measure of the level of interconnectedness in different areas of the brain. High coherence in the right hemisphere is linked to greater emotional balance and understanding of one's own emotions as well as the emotions of others. It also reflects a greater cognitive understanding of the larger picture. The frontal alpha asymmetry index is defined as the difference between right and left alpha activity over frontal regions of the brain. People with increased left-frontal alpha were found to process information in a rather positive way.
Right-lateralization indicated a more negative processing mode. Frontal Asymmetry score measures the amount of motivation towards (approach) or away from (avoidance) something or someone. Greater left-side prefrontal cortex activity appeared to be associated with approach-related and goal-directed action planning, while the right suggests avoidance-related emotions. Intuition can be defined as the automatic, unconscious ability to understand a problem or situation with the need for conscious deliberation or thought.
The invention also includes a method and a system for Galvanic Skin Response (GSR) based on Intuitive Learning. More particularly this invention relates to measuring and displaying the galvanic skin response of an individual during random selection and decision events created by a computer system, and the use of the data generated to provide intuition to the individual's decision making on future unpredictable real-life events.
BACKGROUND
Different people have unique emotional and cognitive abilities and styles. These are constellations of emotional and cognitive reactions and coping responses that differ in kind, intensity, and duration. Just as each person has a unique fingerprint and a unique face, each of us has a unique emotional and cognitive profile which is an integral part of our personality and define who we are that those who know us well can often predict how we will respond to a cognitive or emotional challenge.
Generally, decision making incorporates three main dimensions which are
1. Cognitive skills considered essential to understand, evaluate, and act on various cues available to the decision-maker;
2. Emotional intelligence skills considered essential as Incidental emotions influence decision making. Decision-maker needs to balance emotion with reason and make decisions that positively impact themselves, their employees, their customers and stakeholders, and their organizations; and
3. Intuitive skills also called intuition has also been recognized as playing a key function in the entrepreneurial decision. Successful entrepreneurs, managers, and decision-makers, in general, have credited intuition as the main mechanism behind their decision-making process.

With reference to Fig. 1, the respondent is shown 3 neutral images at 5 seconds each and after that respondent is shown 18 calibrated emotional images and sounds Fear/disgust/sexual arousal/social phobia-Dataset for testing various skills are is downloadable. After this respondent is shown a neutral image and then the process moves to Stroop test after which results Results are shown as follows: C2-C3 = Self-Regulation Score C4-C2= Emotional Intelligence Score C7-C5 = Problem Solving & focused mental activity score C8-C5 Score = Avoidance or Approach related emotion score (Emotional Intelligence)
This innovation describes a system to measure and rate intuitive, emotional, and cognitive styles of leaders, managers, and decision-makers based on the autonomic measure, mainly EEG and Galvanic Skin Response. This system has applications for Human Resource Management and Personal Development.
The system is based on measuring the coherence score and frontal asymmetry using a commercially available EEG helmet. Such measures are used to provide robust cognitive skills and emotional skills measurement.
The International Affective Picture System (IAPS) is a set of normative emotional stimuli. While the International Affective Digitized Sound system (IADS) provides a set of acoustic emotional stimuli. However other stimuli may be presented.
The system proposes that the coherence score and frontal asymmetry scores are measured by making the respondent experience a series of emotionally calibrated IAPS and lADS images and sound.
While the stimuli are presented, a 14 electrode EEG helmet measures the coherence ratio between three electrodes located on the right frontal regions on the brain. Namely Fp2, F4, and F7 (using the international 10/20 electrode system). Once measured, a coherence score is calculated for the beta frequency (20-30Hz).
While the stimuli are presented, a 14 electrode EEG helmet measures the frontal asymmetry ratio. The frontal alpha asymmetry index is defined as the difference between right and left alpha activity over frontal regions of the brain (Asymmetry Index = In (alpha power right F4 / Alpha power left F3). More specifically FAA using electrodes F4/F3 and electrodes F8/F7 are measured (using the international 10/20 electrode system) in the (8-12 Hz) alpha frequency band.
For cognitive skills measurement, Negative Asymmetry Index corresponds to personnel with a dominant left hemisphere (i.e., in which the focus is largely logical and rational thinking) which indicates that the person may make good planners and Positive Asymmetry Index corresponds to staff with dominant right hemispheres (i.e., in which the focus is largely imagination, creativity, visual imagery, and emotional response) which indicates that the person may make good managers or leaders.
For emotional intelligence using the Frontal Asymmetry measures, the degree of Emotional intelligence can be determined. In this case, a positive Frontal Asymmetry index is linked to higher activity in the right frontal part of the brain, essential for effective interpersonal communication and social relationships. Involved in inspirational leadership, especially the espousal of socialized visionary communication wherein greater left-sided prefrontal cortex activity appeared to be associated with approach-related and goal directed action planning, while the right suggests avoidance-related emotions.
For measuring intuitive skills which are defined as "consciously knowing something is going to happen before it happens" is measured using intuition-pro an in house build high sensitivity GSR detector and a guessing game generating random images.
